SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya has long been F1's pre-season testing venue of choice and as such racing here for the teams is a bit like slipping on a favourite old coat – comfy and familiar. However, because the teams know the conditions so well, the circuit also stands out as perhaps the most representative circuit on the calendar. In short, if your car is good here, it's likely to work well just about anywhere. There are always variables however and unpredictable cross winds can cause problems for set-up, so while races often run true to form, there's always the chance of an upset. The atmosphere here is always excellent too, as after some not always well attended early season flyways this traditional European-season curtain-raiser sees passionate Spanish fans flocking to the track.

WELCOME TO BARCELONA

Although the track is roughly 30km north of the city, good transport links, including a train, means there is no point staying close to the track as the circuit surrounds are largely industrial. Barcelona on the other hand is a wonderfully vibrant city with a real sense of pace, passion and party-loving fun. Culturally rich, diverse and fascinating, any time away from the track should be spent here, soaking up the history and nightly hysteria of one of the Europe's most enjoyable cities.
