MEXICAN GRAND PRIX

It's been 23 years since the Formula One last visited the circuit named in honour of the Rodríguez brothers but after years of rumour and delay the race is finally back on the F1 calendar. The track is famed for the fearsome Peraltada corner and notorious for its lumps and bumps: a consequence of building the circuit in a region known for its geological instability. The circuit will, however, see substantial renovation before F1 arrives – so the actual layout and conditions are still something of an unknown quantity. It hasn't been derelict since F1 last visited – hosting CART, NASCAR, A1GP and sports car racing – but it is in need of some serious TLC.

WELCOME TO AUTODROMO HERMANOS RODRIGUEZ

Some 20 million people call Mexico City and its environs home, making it one of the largest urban areas to host Formula One. The race in the Mexican capital has that rare combination of a permanent circuit located within the city boundaries. Add to that the fierce passion for motor racing in the country and you get the guarantee of a huge race day crowd and a lively atmosphere. The city, frankly, is capable of being anything you want it to be. From a bustling financial district to the historic centre to the ancient Aztec temples, there's always going to be something to do for anyone not entirely consumed by the racing. For most, however, the racing should suffice.
