ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

Formula One has seen plenty of new circuits come and go over the past decade but few have made an impact as significant as Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina. Ultra-modern in every way, in some ways it sets a standard for all newcomers to aspire to. Constructed around a new marina on a man-made island, the circuit features air-conditioned garages, a pitlane exit through a tunnel and a track-spanning hotel with a roof that changes colour. The track itself starts with a couple of high-speed corners before giving way to a second sector featuring two long straights. The last third is a tight and twisty section that demands good traction and braking stability. This year we also have the prospect of double-points on offer at this, the final venue of the 2014 season.

WELCOME TO YAS MARINA

Abu Dhabi's Yas Island is hosting the final race of the F1 season for the first time since 2010. It's a fitting location for a season finale, capable of hosting the sort of drama F1 organisers hope to manufacture by making the final race of the year count double. Yas Island is developing into one of the Middle East's premier leisure destinations. The circuit forms the centrepiece but around it are resort hotels, theme parks, leisure facilities and, of course, the Marina itself. Race organisers support their event by booking big-name music acts to perform after the on-track action finishes each day, making for an excellent experience that goes on well into the night. With Abu Dhabi and nearby Dubai both offering excellent transport links to the rest of the world, the race is fast becoming one of the most international events on the F1 calendar.
